Former Stoke City winger Liam Lawrence has advised the Potters to build the around Oghenekaro Etebo and five others in the Sky Bet Championship next season, reports Futbalgalore.com.
Lawrence, 37, had a six-year stint with the club and gave his thoughts on how the Potters can gain promotion to the English Premier League.
The ex Irish international urged the club to retain Jack Butland, Joe Allen, Ryan Shawcross, Peter Etebo, Danny Batth and Tom Edwards.
“If I had a magic wand and could decide who stays and who goes at Stoke City, I’d probably keep Jack Butland, Joe Allen, Ryan Shawcross, Peter Etebo, Danny Batth, Tom Edwards and the youngsters,” Liam Lawrence said.
“After that I’m afraid, everyone else would be fair game for leaving. That’s how bad things have got at Stoke City and that’s how important this summer is for the club.”
“This is very possibly the biggest six to eight weeks for the club in the past 10-12 years. It really is that big.”
“Get it right and we might just have a squad capable of challenging for promotion next season, but get it wrong again and we are talking about finishing 16th/17th in the Championship again.”
“I know our fans have had enough because after the best part of a decade of watching the club succeed, the last two or three years has been pretty awful.”
