Reflecting on the UEFA Women’s Champions League final that saw Lyon lashex Barcelona convincingly by 4-1 to win the trophy in Budapest on Saturday with focus on Nigeria’s Asisat Oshoala.
Asisat Oshoala is probably Barcelona Femeni biggest winter acquisition and their best player since her arrival from China in January.
The decision by the coaching crew to sideline her for the big occasion against a better opposition only showed their initial plan and a reminder that she only came in on-loan. Some will call it a gamble while some may also term it ‘Plan B’.
Tactical adjustments were made after half time and they paid dividend as Lyon failed to add to their four goals but the most decorated player on the Barca roster didn’t need a lot of time to make her presence felt adding one more to her previous seven in all competitions for the Spanish outfit.
And in the end, Asisat Oshoala is the first Barcelona Femeni player to score in a Champions League grand finale which is a not only a big statement but a feat nobody can erase.
