Nigerian striker Suleiman Abdullahi becomes the second Nigerian in the space of 72 hours to gain promotion to a European top flight after Olabiran Blessing Muyiwa’s exploits with Tambov.
The 22-year-old forward has been phenomenal for the Die Eisernen since joining them from Eintracht Braunschweig last year.
He played a key role is their season and should be in line to play with them in the Bundesliga 1.
The hosts were promoted to the Bundesliga for the first time in their history after a tense scoreless draw at home to VfB Stuttgart was enough to see them win their two-legged promotion/relegation play-off on away goals on Monday.
Abdullahi twice went desperately close to getting the east Berliners in front, hitting the post with a snapshot on 64 minutes and striking the same bit of woodwork two minutes later when he slipped when through but still managed to stab the ball towards the net.
‘It’s a dream come true and we have waited for long for this moment, but thanks to the Almighty God, our supporters and my fans in Nigeria for their massive supports in making our qualification into the Bundesliga 1 successful,” Abdullahi told Futbalgalore.com.
“The season has been a successful one for me and everyone in the team,. I am elated for being in the history books of Union Berlin for chalking this feat,”
