Water FC winger Success Makanjuola has said that he expects Nigeria’s Group D showdown with Ukraine to be like “a final” as both teams battle for a place in the last 16 of the World Cup.
All the other sides can still join Ukraine in progressing out of the tight group, as they are separated by a couple of points ahead of Thursday’s final-round matches.
Nigeria are on three points, sitting three points below Ukraine, with USA facing off against Qatar in the other match.
Makanjuola knows full well just how much is riding on his side’s clash with Ukraine, and is confident of booking a spot in the next round.
“It’s going to be a war and a final of finals because they need to win,” he told Futbalgalore.com. “They are going to come all out and use every tactic that they know to win the game. I am expecting it to be a very tough game but I think we are capable of qualifying.”
Ukraine and Nigeria have faced off on one previous occasion at the FIFA U20 World Cup, with the Flying Eagles winning 1-0 in 2005.
