Nigeria were held to a 1-1 draw by Burkina Faso in their opening African Games Group A game at the Sports Center of FAR, Salé.
Ahmad Ghali drew the curtain raiser with a perfect finish before the hour.
But the Young Stallions levelled up late in the second half.
It got off to a spectacular start, with the fans inside the 10,000 capacity Sports Center of FAR with huge fireworks.
But the game itself failed to match that level of sparkle, with Nigeria dominating for large periods.
Success Makanjuola was a lively presence but put a number of efforts wide of goal and while he did manage to get one shot on target before the interval it was a routine save for the keeper.
Just as Burkina Faso were enjoying their best spell, Nigeria took the lead through Ghali who dispatched a clinical effort into the net.
The Burkinabes broke the hearts of Nigerians with a late equaliser.
The draw puts Nigeria on one point in Group A, which also contains hosts Morocco and South Africa. Those two sides face each other on Friday at the same ground.
In the end it was an unconvincing display from the Flying Eagles with lots of areas for improvement. Meanwhile, Burkina Faso’s performance should give them hope of competing for a place in the semi final.
