Despite his superlative show in helping Udinese shock highly fancied AC Milan 1-0 in the Serie A on Sunday, Super Eagles central defender William Troost-Ekong missed out in the Serie A team of the week.
The 25-year-old Nigeria international who joined the White and Blacks at the start of last summer was a consistent performer for Igor Tudor’s men in his debut season, where he made 37 appearances across all competitions to help the Stadio Friuli outfit finish 12th on the Serie A table.
According to Whoscored.com, Troost-Ekong continued from where he stopped the last term, helping Udinese keep a clean sheet at home where he was rated 7.3 overall in his first Serie A game of the season against the Rossoneri as the centre-back even registered an attempt on goal, in a game that saw the host pelting Gianluigi Donnarumma’s goal post with several attempts on either end of the field.
The former Haugesund, KAA Gent and Bursaspor defender was snubbed by Whoscored.com in their team of the week.
It will be recalled that Troost-Ekong was one of the top performers for Udinese in the tension soaked battle.
He logged 90 minutes at Dacia Arena.
Rodrigo Becao, who was signed by Udinese in the off-season, headed a corner into the bottom right of the net in the 72nd minute.
