Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi was impressive as West Bromwich Albion came from behind to secure a 1-1 draw against hosts Manchester City at the Etihad on Tuesday evening.
Ilkay Gundogan fired City ahead but Ajayi’s deflected effort drew WestBrom level. The Baggies held on against attacking City as the hosts registered 26 shots but Albion’s defender Ajayi gave out a brilliant performance.
Manchester City broke the deadline in the 30th minute through Ilkay Gundogan. Joao Cancelo initiated the move with a wonderful threaded pass that released Raheem Sterling into the area. He got his head up, cut the ball back, and Gundogan was on hand with a clinical finish into the net.
Semi Ajayi drew level with what he thought was his first Premier League goal. City half-cleared a free-kick into their box but the Baggies did well to recycle play and keep the pressure on.
And it paid off as Ajayi held off the challenge of Ake and saw his low drive took a wicked deflection off Dias past the wrong-footed Ederson.
Arsenal product, Ajayi also lists Cardiff City and Rotherham United as his former clubs.
