A statement from CAJETAN NWAKPAN stated that the team at the weekend received their two months outstanding salaries for the months of November and December, 2020.
He stated further that an approval for the release of #31.1Million for the payment of the team’s salaries was conveyed in a memo from the office of the Principal Secretary to the Governor, Mrs Irene Chima dated 7th January, 2021 and addressed to the Imo State Commissioner for Finance.
Those covered in the payments include all the players, the main team technical crew, the technical crew for Team B, the management staff and other non-management staff.
Meanwhile, the players and officials who were already on their way to Jos for a league game against Plateau Utd’ FC this weekend have acknowledged the payment.
It was gathered that the players and officials started receiving their payment alerts on Friday while still traveling on the road to Jos.
Imo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Dan Ogu who also confirmed the payments, said the government was doing everything possible to uplift the team.
He urged the players and coaches to increase their efforts in other to achieve nether result than they had posted before now.
