Williams Disappointed To Concede ‘Heartbreaking’ Late Goal

Defender Ubong Williams described conceding the injury time winner as “heartbreaking” – as Dakkada FC suffered a 2-1 defeat to Lobi Stars on Sunday.

Ubong Williams provided the assist for Christian Ekong equaliser, but there was a sting in the tail in additional time.

The homers scored from the spot and halted the four-match unbeaten run of Dakkada in the Nigeria Professional Football League, and Williams believes the team deserved to take something from the game.

“It’s very heartbreaking to concede in the additional time,” Ubong Williams told Futbalgalore.com.ng. “I thought we played well, but in the end, that’s football.

“I thought we deserved to take something from the game after levelling up.”

Dakkada looked to be on course to continue their unbeaten run in the 2020/21 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), after Christian Ekong’s 71st-minute header had cancelled out a first-half goal from Samuel Mathias.

But then Arinze Obuka clipped Chinonso Okonkwo’s heels in injury time to give Austin Ogunye the chance to hand the Pride of Benue three points from the penalty spot – an opportunity he took with great calmness.

The former Abia Warriors defender added: “We are working very well and I believe in this team.

“I think we need to forget about this heartbreak and forge ahead.”

Dakkada return to action next weekend when they host Sunshine Stars at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.
