Nasarawa United’s 1-0 win against Katsina United showcased several impressive talents that have emerged during the run to top six in the 2020/21 Nigeria Professional Football League season.
The Solid Miners are second on the ladder with 10 points from five games.
Below we look at six players behind their wonderful run so far.
1) Tebo Franklin (Centre-back)
Tebo Franklin is a remarkable figure who should become one of the standout players of Nasarawa United. He has it all: the physique of a central defender, leadership skills beyond his years and technical qualities that make the game look simple.
2) Reuben Nicodemus (Left-back)
It was Reuben Nicodemus who, caused pains for Wikki Tourists with a brace against the Giant Elephants in day 1. Lung-busting determination and then the presence of mind to distribute coolly, are characteristics of the youngster.
3) Adamu Hassan (Forward)
Kano Pillars fans may have been watching from behind the sofa by the time Adamu Hassan cracked the leveller in the game Nasarawa United and Masu Gida played in Lafia. Nobody has ever questioned his flair; there were some outstanding moments at Pillars but never really a sustained spell that looked like propelling him into the top bracket. He has been directly involved in two goals for Nasarawa United this season.
4) Aliyu Abdullahi (Winger)
A twinge of wistfulness cannot be avoided when watching Aliyu Abdullahi, proudly wearing Nasarawa United’s colours. His vision and awareness have coaxed the most grounded of observers into comparisons with Rangers winger Ibrahim Olawoyin.
5) Silas Nwankwo (Forward)
Silas Nwankwo’s talent was admired in hushed tones as he emerged at Sunshine Stars – the forward is firmly in the mainstream now. He has a wand of a right foot and laser vision. The striker is a fearless footballer.
6) Danlami Umar (Goalkeeper)
The goalkeeper has kept two clean sheets in games with Adamawa United and Katsina United so far. His ability to organise the Nasarawa United back line has been fantastic. The shot stopper is one player who must be fit all season if the Solid Miners are to pick a continental ticket.
