Heartland manager Fidelis Ilechukwu won his fourth game of the 2020/21 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season with a 2-0 victory over Lobi Stars on Monday.
Goals from Chidera Eze and Samuel Nnoshiri capped off a great performance for Ilechukwu’s men.
The Owerri outfit performed as a rejuvenated side, with their quick-passing move, and it appears as if Ilechukwu has found the perfect way to combine both possession and directness in Heartland’s play, whilst also getting the best from Samuel Nnoshiri.
The result was impressive, although there is no right for Heartland to consider themselves as a ready-made outfit. Don’t blame them. They have picked seven points in the last three games.
Lobi Stars’ performance in Okigwe was mediocre, and they were cut open time and again in the final third of the pitch.
It was a top class performance by Heartland on Monday, and one that many will be hoping continues, but the fact that it was an off colour Lobi Stars defeated should keep fans, and players, level-headed with the challenges of the NPFL as a division.
Heartland are 10th on the ladder with 13 points, with eight points between them and leaders Kwara United.
The Nazi Millionaires are unlikely to have an easier game this season, but, if they continue to perform as they did in Okigwe, it is hard to see any team getting the best of the Owerri-based side. They might start dreaming of the title if the great form continues.
