Austria international David Alaba has announced that he is leaving Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

The Nigerian born defender and the club failed to agree on a new deal with the player said to be on his way to real Madrid after agreeing on a contract verbally.

Alaba’s current deal expires in July and despite lengthy negotiations with Bayern officials, was unable to reach fresh terms.

In a statement, the player said: “I have made the decision to try something new next season. It has been a very difficult decision to say goodbye to this club where I have been for 13 years. I still will not say anything about my next destination.”

The player joined Bayern in 2008 and has since gone on to win nine Bundesliga, six DFB Pokal, and two Champions League titles and apart from Madrid, there have been reports that Chelsea too is interested in the player.
