36 Lion graduate Junior Ajayi wins CAF Champions League Player of the Week award

Al Ahly’s Nigerian forward Junior Ajayi has won the CAF Champions League Player of the Week award, Futbalgalore.com.ng reports.

After returning from the Club World Cup, Al Ahly almost immediately kicked-off their CAF Champions League title defense campaign.

The Reds came up against Sudanese champions Al-Merrikh and managed to come out victorious, with a 3-0 scoreline.

One of the top performers of the game was Junior Ajayi, who assisted the Reds’ second of the game, which was scored by Mahmoud Kahraba.

This was the 25-year-old only second game of the season after appearing in the Club World Cup third-placed playoff against Palmeiras, scoring a crucial penalty.

Ajayi was up against MC Alger keeper Abdelkader Salhi, Ocansey Mandela of Horoya, and Sundowns’s Mosa Lebusa.

The 36 Lion graduate won the award with 96% of the votes.
