After a rather poor period for Lobi Stars in the Nigeria Professional Football League, the team finally found form with a 1-0 win over Kano Pillars on Sunday.
Austin Ogunye netted the all important strike of the match at the Aper Aku Stadium.
Here are five things we learned from the game…
- Great reaction
After the success against Dakkada on 17th January, Stars went five games without a win. Against Pillars, they needed to react quickly and get back to winning ways and they did so in the right way, with Kabiru Dogo’s men looking well in control throughout the whole game in Makurdi.
The players did well grabbing the lead. Smart enough, they tried to keep the ball more in the second half and preserve their energy for the upcoming game Adamawa United.
- Super Daniel
Former Nigeria U23 number one Emmanuel Daniel proved why he is still highly rated. He pulled off two point blanks saves behind the sticks.
- Impressive Lazarus
John Lazarus got the assist on the only goal. He showed intelligent positioning and was heavily involved in Stars’ attacks.
- Solid Victor Arikpo
Arikpo was back at his best against Pillars. He was a constant threat going forward causing a lot of problems for Pillars and was solid.
- Electric from Ogunye
Austin Ogunye has been doing really well playing as a forward in a different but still effective style. He has been improving in terms of efficiency in the final third and has already managed two goals. He is being more and more consistent with every game and a has been real engine for his side. Seeing him glide past players should put a smile on every fan’s face as the former MFM FC player does have something special.
