Gbenga Ogunbote refused to dive to deep into the performance of the match officials after Sunshine Stars’ 1-0 defeat to Kano Pillars.
Nyima Nwagua’s solitary strike helped Pillars to the top of the log after day 12 in the 2020/21 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
To kick off the post-match press conference, Ogunbote was questioned on the possible red card for goalkeeper Idris Ibrahim after a last-man foul on Ajani Ibrahim.
“It’s only the referee who can explain that,” coach Gbenga Ogunbote told the Media.
“If I talk about comfortability or not people might think I am adding sentiments.
“You have seen it, you know what the law says. Interpret and publish it,” he mused.
The coach further commented on the performance.
“We gave a good fight in this game, believing we could at least get a point here, but no thanks to that careless moment.
“Sometimes you have your challenges and the ability to get out of it is what make you great. We acknowledge the fact that we have issues, for now; we have not pick maximum points for some time, but we will go back to winning ways.”
Ogunbote’s comments on the refereeing took a leaf out of Jose Mourinho’s book (‘I prefer not to speak’) was meant to avoid a fine from the League Management Company.
The manner in which Ogunbote spoke was somewhat funny to see from a neutral perspective.
