Rivers United have debunked claims that Super Eagles stars Theophilus Afelokhai and Ifeanyi Anaemena were suspended due to betting related matters.
The duo committed an unpardonable blunder in the club’s 3-0 loss to Akwa United on Sunday.
Some media outlets have alleged that the two players connived to make the club suffer defeat.
The Port Harcourt based club have come out to deny such allegations and stated that all matters involving their star players will be handled internally.
The statement signed by the Club’s Media Officer Charles Mayuku reads: “It has been brought to our attention a publication on twitter by one @Themonitor19 and other media channels concerning the suspension of 2 of our players relating it to sports betting. We wish to emphasise that said information is entirely false.”
“The said players are still bonafide members of Rivers United FC and all matters relating to the club are handled internally.”
“Therefore, any statements or value judgements made by the cited publication in regard to this false information lack any basis.”
