The Super Eagles 1994 squad is undoubtedly one of the best or if not the best the country has ever produced.
From winning AFCON 1994 in Tunisia and Rashidi Yekini finishing as the Tournament’s Best Player to going through to the USA 1994 knockout Stages in the country’s First World Cup outing.
Although, the Squad that won 1980 Nation’s Cup with Segun Odegbami also have enough qualities to be tagged as the best squad but how exciting were they compared to the 1994 squad?
The Golden Generation was managed by Clemens Westerhof and he can also be tagged as Nigeria’s Best coach or Best Foreign Coach to manage the Super Eagles.
There were a lot of great players in the squad like Peter Rufai, Emmanuel Amunike, Mutiu Adepoju, Jay Jay Okocha, Rashidi Yekini, Stephen Keshi and Samson Siasia.
All these players did great at their respective clubs in Europe.
Nigeria for the first time were ranked in the Top Five Football teams in the FIFA Rankings. Fifth place was a good return.
Loss of concentration cost the team in the World Cup second round against Italy.
Years have gone by and things have evolved but how many of these Players can you still remember?
Here are the 1994 World Cup Squad……….
Austin Jay Jay Okocha
