Nigerian International Alex Iwobi has caused a few jitters after sending a cryptic message over his playing position at Everton.
Iwobi has been called up to the Nigeria squad for their Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against the Benin Republic and Lesotho later this month and in an Instagram message, the winger said that he hoped that the national team head coach played him in his preferred position.
“Always an honor to get a call up to my National Team. Hopefully, I get to play in my preferred position,” Iwobi noted.
The winger has been played in a number of positions at his cub by manager Carlo Ancelotti and didn’t seem interested when he was substituted in the club’s loss to Chelsea on Monday night. In November and December, he played right wing-back, left wing-back, right back, and right-wing and has also played wide on the left in an advanced role.
In his last outing for his national team, the attacker played in a front three, although it is believed he prefers to operate as a number 10 position that has James Rodriguez and Gylfi Sigurdson.
The former Arsenal man has made 29 appearances for the Blues this season but has been substituted in each of his last six starts.
