Coach Fatai Osho praised Ahli Benghazi for their efforts on Wednesday afternoon, as he reflected on Enyimba’s ‘vital win’.
The People’s Elephants began their CAF Confederation Group campaign with a 2-1 win in Aba, with Augustine Oladapo and Victor Mbaoma netted in the first half for the result.
“I am happy with the win, but even when you win ten goals to nothing there is always room to get better. My boys did well despite the weather,” Fatai Osho Brazilian reflected afterwards to the Press.
“We played against a formidable team, strong side. With character they came all out and believed in themselves that can get something from the game.”
“Our resilience and ability to play as a unit helped us to some extent. Getting this win is a good one for us, that’s the way to go.
The two-time CAF Champions League winners will continue their bid to win the Confederation Cup with a date with Orlando Pirates of South Africa next Wednesday.
“We can start thinking of next Wednesday in South Africa to consolidate on this one.
The ex Remo Stars gaffer decided to surprise the Libyan side with by starting Samson Obi ahead of Sadiq Abubakar and the decision worked.
“We didn’t change our style of play at no time. We tried to bring in our surprise element in Samson Obi.”
“They didn’t expect him to start, it was a shocker to them. They will have done a lot of work on Anayo Iwuala and Sadiq Abubakar as wide players. He (Obi) did excellently well and was tactically disciplined. We know what he can offer. He did a great job.”
“Exactly how we wrote the script, it turned out that way,” he enthused.
On missed chances the coach said, “We should try and respect the opposition. Any one playing at this stage of the competition didn’t get there by element of luck.”
Osho admitted that his wards needed to buckle up in terms of taking chances.
“We could have scored more. The conversion rate is still a little problem.”
“Let’s enjoy this victory and come back tomorrow to get better going forward. It is a decimal, this is the continent and we should have done better.
“We created more chances in the second half than the first half. We tried to hit them on the break but couldn’t convert those chances.
The gaffer praised the quality of his squad by saying “we don’t have fringe players.”
“We don’t have fringe players in our team, we have a quality squad. It’s good for us to have a pool of quality players, we can always surprise our opponents with what we did today with Samson Obi,” he added.
