Explosive striker Samson Akinyoola scored a sweet goal but it wasn’t enough to save Caracas from losing 2-1 to Junior FC on Thursday morning.
The 36 Lion trained forward was lively throughout the Copa Libertadores knockout first leg game at the Estadio Olímpico de la UCV (Caracas).
Akinyoola masterfully converted a measured Richard Celis right wing cross to give Caracas the lead in the 35th minute.
It was a move that Akinyoola was involved in and he showed predatory instinct to drive home a sidefooted effort.
Miguel Borja was lucky to level up for Junior FC in the 69th minute. His close range strike wasn’t well held by the goalkeeper.
Another 36 Lion product Ade Oguns was called upon to replace Osei Bonsu in the 74th minute.
But there was a late heartbreak for Caracas as Willer Ditta nodded home the match winner.
Second leg will hold at the Estadio Metropolitano Roberto Meléndez (Barranquilla) on March 18th.
