Young Nigerian striker David Omilabu signed his first professional contract with Crystal Palace, the club announced. David revealed he is delighted to sign his first professional contract, as it is a reward for hard work from him and his family.
The Premier League club offered him a contract following his impressive performance for the youth side in the 2020/2021 season.
Speaking to Crystal Palace TV, David stated that he has been waiting for the moment since he was a kid. He also disclosed that the contract is a reward of hard work from him and his family.
“It’s a good feeling – I’ve been waiting my whole life for it. Since I was eight, my parents have been driving me to training and matches, so it’s nice to know their hard work has paid off for me as well.”
David said his objective at the start of the season is to score goals, and he is glad he has achieved that with the club.
“At the start of the season, my target was to score goals and help the team win, and it’s safe to say I’ve been doing that so far.
“[I love] the fans, the atmosphere of Crystal Palace as a south London club. I was born and raised in south London, so to know that the club is local to me feels very good.”
In twelve games for the U18s, David scored nine goals and received a yellow card once. He has also scored a goal for the U23s.
