Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun has explained how Stephen Gerrard convinced him to join Rangers last summer. Rangers secured the signing of Balogun after he terminated his contract with Brighton & Hove Albion.
Leon Balogun struggled in the Premier League. A lot of injuries hampered his playing time with the Premier League side.
Revealing how he joined the Scottish club, Leon Balogun disclosed that Stephen Gerrard went out of his way to convince him. He stated that he made him feel wanted as a player and a person.
“When my agent called me a year ago, he immediately said: ‘I have one thing here that is huge for you: the Rangers” Balogun told Bild.
“At first, I thought: Scottish League, well. But then I felt Steven Gerrard’s interest. I don’t mean to say that he chased me. But he went out of his way to help me.
“I felt that he wanted me as a player, as a guy, as Leon Balogun. He said I was a perfect match for his game idea and the identity of the club. With every word, he convinced me even more”.
