It was Cameroon’s year in 2000 as the Indomitable Lions swept all before them to claim continental gold.

Nigeria lost in the final to Cameroon at National Stadium, Lagos.

A star-studded Cameroon side had quality throughout their spine. Skipper Rigobert Song marshalled things at the back, Geremi and Lauren provided the thrust from the wingback positions, and Patrick Mboma and Samuel Eto’o provided the firepower up top.

The likes of Julius Aghahowa, Jay Jay Okocha, Tijani Babangida and Victor Ikpeba shone for Nigeria at the tournament.
