There is motivation - Simy confirms Crotone players are still motivated

Super Eagles striker Simy Nwankwo has revealed Crotone players are still motivated despite relegating to Serie B. Crotone draw 1-1 away to Benevento, thanks to a late strike from the Nigerian striker.

The goal is Simy’s twentieth of the season and put him behind Samuel Eto’o (21) in the list of African players that have scored twenty-plus goals in Italy.

Speaking to Sky Italian, the Nigerian striker disclosed that the team is still motivated and will fight till the end of the season, even though their relegation to Serie B has been confirmed.

“There is always motivation. It might’ve been different, as Benevento were seeking safety, but we are professionals and must never let anything go.

“We didn’t take our foot off the gas in training and we won’t do it in the game either. We never stopped believing today and continued looking for a goal to the very end.”

“What I can assure the fans is that this team never put their feet up, never shirked responsibility.

“In football, the result is not always what you want, but in the end, we take responsibility for everything and know that if we’re in the bottom three, that is also partly our own fault.”

About his future, Simy Nwankwo has assured Crotone fans that he would remain at the club next season.

“I have been in Italy for five years, the toughest league in the world for a striker. Crotone is a fantastic place, the people and club have given me everything and this is the best moment of my career.
“I think now the time has come to give even more.”
