36 Lion product Junior Ajayi contributed his quota as his side Al Ahly were held to a 1-1 draw by National Bank of Egypt (NBE) in the Egyptian Premier League on Thursday night.
National Bank had the first clear cut chance of the game in the 14th minute when Fady Farid took a shot from outside the penalty area but Ali Lotfy was able to save it.
Al Ahly quickly compensated their weak performance in the first-half with a quick goal a few minutes after the start of the second period.
Junior Ajayi’s deflected shot reached Mohamed Magdy Afsha in the penalty box and the latter’s shot went past goalkeeper Mohamed El Zonfouly.
Ajayi was substituted after the hour mark as Al Ahly tried to close shop.
However, Karim Bambo had other thoughts as he equalized just five minutes before the final whistle. Assem Salah’s cross was met with a header from Bambo who put the ball past Lotfy.
Al Ahly now sit second on the league table with 52 points, nine behind leaders Zamalek, but they still have three games in hand. However, if they win all three of their remaining games they will still be on equal points with the White Knights.
The Red Devils’ next game will be next Sunday, July 25 against bottom-placed Entag El-Harby, where Ajayi will be hoping to contribute his quota to Ahly.
