Super Eagles boss Augustine Eguavoen has made it clear to the Almeria striker Umar Sadiq that he is not going along for the ride.
Umar, 24, was picked in Super Eagles Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) squad to cap a remarkable 2021/22 season.
He scored three goals in the team’s training session at Moshood Abiola Stadium on Tuesday night.
And the Super Eagles manager is exploring the idea of playing three forwards by using Kelechi Iheanacho in a deep-lying role for Nigeria.
That opens up the possibility of using Umar as an the number 9 in Cameroon. The forward has scored nine goals and provided seven assists in 21 appearances for Almeria this season.
Eguavoen made the decision to bring the former AS Roma attacker into the 28-man squad for AFCON and he is set to hand him the No 9 shirt for the tournament.
Nigeria’s coach is impressed by Umar’s attitude and maturity and has no doubts about throwing him into fray.
