Joe Aribo heaped praise on Super Eagles after Nigeria deserved 1-0 win against Egypt in their opening 2021 Africa Cup of Nations game.

The Super Eagles won their first group game 1-0 thanks to Kelechi Iheanacho’s half finish.

Augustine Eguavoen’s wards were the better side throughout the 90 minutes as they did well to nullify Pharaohs’ threats.

With the likes of Mohamed Salah, Ramadan Sobhi, Mohammed Elneny, Hamdy Fathy, Omar Marmoush and Trezeguet, Egypt are strong in key areas.

But Nigeria’s two holding midfielders – Aribo and Wilfred Ndidi – performed brilliantly to keep Egypt’s danger men quiet all game.

“We are very happy with the three points. That’s what we wanted to get. We set a target for ourselves to get the win,” Aribo informed at the Mixed Zone.

The Rangers star continued: “We were strong defensively, the coach told us that he wanted 100% and we gave him just that.”

“We were very happy and motivated playing against Egypt before the game. They are a top side and have great players. For us, getting the three points made the difference,” he concluded.
