Huesca playmaker Kelechi Nwakali has called on fans to not compare him to legendary Super Eagles star Austin Jay Jay Okocha as he has his ‘own way of playing’.
The 23-year-old made his Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) debut for Nigeria against Egypt on Tuesday.
“It was great to make my AFCON debut against Egypt. That’s the dream of any Nigerian player,” Nwakali told Futbalgalore.com.ng in an exclusive interview.
“If I don’t have what it takes to be part of this team the coach wouldn’t invite me. I want to live up to expectations and try my best for the team. I want to help the team achieve something great in Cameroon.”
“I think about playing, working hard, improving every day. I am a player with technical quality and a vision of play, for the team above all.
“I like to make the team play well. I will do the most possible so that we all have a great team in Cameroon.
Nwakali’s early form for Nigeria at youth level saw him compared to Okocha.
“There have always been comparisons, I am used to that, and do not think much about it.
“I am not living under anybody. Okocha is a legend, I don’t think I have his skills. I am a different player who want to help the team win.”
