Akwa United Football Club received with great shock the news of the sudden demise of its former coach Maurice Cooreman who passed on at the age of 79 in Belgium.
Chairman of Akwa United Elder Paul Bassey described late Maurice Cooreman as an experienced, passionate and dynamic coach who distinguished himself as a good ambassador of the beautiful game.
“We are saddened with the news of the death of coach Maurice Cooreman. A man who worked with me as the Technical Adviser in my first year as chairman of Akwa United FC in 2016.
“Cooreman was such an experienced, dynamic and passionate coach with deep and wide knowledge of the beautiful game at all levels.
“Cooreman worked in nearly all the regions in Nigeria and his understanding of the game of football made him a standout tactician who achieved successes during his time in the country.
“Cooreman will be missed not only by Akwa United but by the entire football fraternity. As we mourn, we pray God Almighty to grant him eternal rest, while granting his family, friends and associates the strength to bear this irreparable loss”.
Maurice Cooreman was in-charge of Akwa United in 2016 and took the team to their first-ever continental outing in the CAF Confederation Cup.
