Top African Goalscorers In Europe Big 5 Leagues

The 2021/22 season saw African players displaying their quality and making sure that they made the continent proud. Below we take a look at those Africans who were top scorers in the Big 5 Leagues.

La Liga

Former Gabon international Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang plays for Barcelona and featured in 17 Primera División games in 2021/2022 since joining the club on 2nd February 2022, being selected in the starting XI in 13 of these and entering as a substitute on four occasions.

Aubameyang last made an appearance in a league game on May 22, playing 57 minutes for Barcelona versus Villarreal in a 2-0 loss. In total, the attacker scored 11 Primera División goals in 2021/2022, making him the club’s second-top league scorer, and registered one assist.

It was versus Celta de Vigo on May 10 when Aubameyang last scored, netting with a brace in a 3-1 win. His opening goals of the campaign came in the 4-1 victory against Valencia on February 20, when he scored twice.

Bundesliga

Taiwo Awoniyi, the Union Berlin attacker, appeared in the vast majority of their Bundesliga games in 2021/2022, making 31 appearances overall and playing 2,200 minutes.

The Nigeria international started in 29 of these appearances across their 34 fixtures and entered as a substitute on two occasions.

Awoniyi last played in the league on May 14 for Union Berlin against Bochum. In that match the Nigerian player scored twice for his club in their 3-2 success.

The attacker scored 15 goals, which ranked him sixth overall in this category in 2021/2022, while also making him the top league scorer for his side.

Serie A

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen is a Napoli attacker who took part in the majority of the team’s Serie A matches in 2021/2022, making 27 appearances overall and accumulating 1,992 minutes of playing time. He was selected in the starting XI in 23 of these appearances across their 38 fixtures and entered as a substitute on four occasions.

The last Serie A match that Osimhen played came on May 22 for Napoli versus Spezia; a match that he logged 22 minutes in during a 3-0 victory. The 23-year-old was ranked joint eighth in the Serie A goalscoring charts with a total of 14 goals in 2021/22 campaign, as well as being the team’s top league scorer.

Ligue 1

Clermont’s Mohamed Bayo appeared in the vast majority of their Ligue 1 games in 2021/2022, making 32 appearances overall and playing 2,426 minutes. He was selected in the starting XI in 27 of these appearances across their 38 fixtures and entered as a substitute on five occasions.

Bayo last appeared in the league on May 21 for Clermont against Olympique Lyonnais. He netted a goal in that game for his side in their 2-1 defeat. The attacker netted 14 Ligue 1 goals, which was the eighth highest tally in the competition in 2021/2022. He has been booked once.

A first league goal of the campaign for Bayo came against Bordeaux in a 2-0 victory on August 8.

Premier League

Liverpool attacker Mohamed Salah appeared in the vast majority of their Premier League games in 2021/2022, making 35 appearances overall and playing 2,762 minutes. He started in 30 of these appearances across their 38 fixtures and was used as a substitute on five occasions.

Salah last featured in the league on May 22 for Liverpool against Wolverhampton Wanderers. In that match he found the back of the net for his side in their 3-1 victory. The attacker scored 23 Premier League goals, which was tied for the highest tally in the competition in 2021/2022.

He opened his account for the Premier League campaign against Norwich City on August 14, scoring during a 3-0 victory.
