The Nigerian International and Union Berlin striker, Taiwo Awoniyi has revealed his commitment to the badge of Union Berlin.

The Super Eagles striker stated this on Thursday in Ilorin during his official interaction with the members of the Kwara State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN).

He also explained his relationship with Liverpool, family and how it all started.

Do you have unfinished business with Liverpool?

There is more to football. In football you can only do the best on the pitch, outside that there are people who handle it. As a player I understand it. I’m still contracted to Union Berlin and I respect my obligations to the club.

Are you still interested in Liverpool?

To be honest, signing for Liverpool was one of the greatest things that happened to me. Every player wants to play in the biggest clubs around the world. I’m not exempted.

You are someone who gives back to the society. What motivates you to identify with the Grassroots?

I was born and brought up here. My motivation is “never forget your humble beginning.” I don’t like to call the cameras anytime the society is involved as regards giving back. It is just my personality and religion. The best one can do is to serve as motivation to the Public.

How do you feel not being invited to the Super Eagles latest squad?

I have always said that the national team is a great previlege for every individual. One thing I have always noted is that everyone can’t be there at the same time. I believe the team will be successful no matter who is there.

How has it been rising from the grassroots?

Growing at the Grassroots is down to my family. I remember what we through as a family. At the beginning, my dad wasn’t in support of football. He couldn’t get certain things because of lack of education. My father wanted me to be a Doctor. I also wanted to study Medicine. I started from Unicorn Soccer Academy, that’s why I am always grateful to the owner of the team. I owe everything I have achieved to him. Apart from my family, he is God sent.
