Nigeria’s thrashing of Sao Tome and Principe saw Victor Osimhen join the Exclusive list of footballers who have bagged four goals in a game for the Super Eagles.
It was the forward’s 15th goal for his country at senior level, while it also moved him up to sixth on the all-time scorer’s list on in just 25 games.
When a player scores 4 goals, some of the terms used include poker, haul or a super hat trick. This depends on which country you’re from.
Equally, the 23-year-old has also edged himself into the top three list for most poker by a Nigerian at international level, joining an elite batch of forwards in the process.
Four goals for Super Eagles players are a rare commodity, it seems, so that got us thinking: who are the others?
2. Alloysius Atuegbu
Atuegbu brought the best of his poaching abilities to Nigeria senior national team for seven years, but it’s his decisive display against Sierra Leone – where he single-handedly put Leone Stars to the sword – that is best remembered.
1. Rashidi Yekini
Finishing off our list with the loudest of bangs, it’s only Rashidi Yekini.
One of the most uniquely players of his generation, Yekini had to overcome a lot after arriving on the scene for the Super Eagles, often finding himself treated as a scapegoat when things weren’t going well, but he persevered – and is still the Super Eagles’ top scorer of all-time.
Arguably his best stateside performance came in the early 90s, in which he inspired Super Eagles, setting the tone with a formidable four-goal showing against Burkina Faso in 27th July 1991.
