Coach Jose Peseiro might make a shake-up of his Super Eagles squad soon, there is still more than two months for him to monitor the best legs of Nigeria all over the world.

But come the next international window, what could Super Eagles’ squad look like? Here is an overview for each area of the side.

Goalkeepers

It’s the only department of the squad to see some change so far, with some lethargic performances on the part of those field. That means there is a gap that needs filling.

Before then, Super Eagles need to settle on what’s happening with their number one and his deputy. A change between the sticks feels unlikely at the moment.

Maduka Okoye be sticking around as the number two, and then it’s a case of who backs up Francis Uzoho and Adeleye Adebayo.

Centre-backs

A new centre-back pairing is a priority for Peseiro, the coach like a player, preferably left-sided, in the mould of Calvin Bassey.

Speaking of Bassey, the Rangers man played that role very well against Sao Tome and Principe.

William Troost-Ekong should be the first choice, while Semi Ajayi looks likely to be kept on as back-up. Leon Balogun may be left out of the squad if he doesn’t get a new club.

Full-backs

Very little work needs to be done in the full-back roles. Between Ola Aina, Zaidu Sanusi and Calvin Bassey, Nigeria have three top-level players for the two wide defensive positions.

Then there is Jamilu Collins providing support on the left side. Shehu Abdullahi may also be included in the squad as an experienced head.

Central midfielders

It’s the area that requires the most attention in the Super Eagles squad.

Of the current squad, Wilfred Ndidi, Joe Aribo, Oghenekaro Etebo and Frank Onyeka are crucial.

A box-to-box midfielder, who can protect the back-line and then surge through the lines with the ball at feet, is wanted, while a high-pressing type with good numbers of goals and assists would also work well in Peseiro’s system. Then it’s a matter of what happens with Aribo, as his ball-playing ability feels too crucial to the team’s success. Don’t forget Alex Iwobi.

Wingers

Moses Simon is the star man on the left, while Ademola Lookman, will remain an option, if not a first-choice one. Samuel Chukwueze isn’t consistent but one can’t write him off.

Strikers

In Victor Osimhen, Kelechi Iheanacho, Taiwo Awoniyi, Paul Onuachu, Sadiq Umar, Terem Moffi and Emmanuel Dennis, Super Eagles have seven players who are all able to contribute goals and assists at an excellent rate.
