Why striker Sadiq Umar is worth a gamble for Villarreal

Villarreal are mulling over a move for Nigerian striker Sadiq Umar, with report suggesting that Yellow Submarine boss Unai Emery is desperate to bring in a new striker this summer.

Jololo, who is currently on the books of Almeria, enjoyed a prolific 2021/22 season in the second-tier of Spanish football, scoring 18 goals as the club picked promotion ticket to La Liga 1.

As per the report, the 25-year-old’s blistering run of form has put Villarreal on red alert and the Yellow Submarine are exploring the possibility of entering the negotiations with the striker’s club, Almeria.

West Ham are reportedly in talks with Villarreal over a proposed move to sign attacker Arnaut Danjuma this summer.

After joining the Yellow Submarine from Bournemouth last summer, the 25-year-old enjoyed a prolific 2021-22 campaign in front of goal, scoring 16 times and providing four assists in 34 appearances across all competitions.

Danjuma’s impressive form in both La Liga and the Champions League is understood to have altered a number of top European clubs, including Manchester United and Liverpool.

Villarreal will need to sell Danjuma if they wish to sign primary target Umar Sadiq from Almeria, who value the striker in excess of €25m (£21.5m).

To that end, fans at Estadio de la Cerámica would certainly welcome a new striker in the Summer with open arms, as Umar boasts of a prolific record in his professional career.

The 6ft 4in Kaduna-born has scored 38 times in 74 league appearances for Almeria since arriving from Partizan Belgrade.

Indeed, those numbers are enough to justify Villarreal’s links with the striker, as they prepare for next season.
