Rangers midfielder Joe Aribo insists he is not letting himself get distracted over speculation of a potential transfer to the Premier League.

The Nigerian international has been linked with a move south of the border, with Southampton and Crystal Palace said to be interested in the 25-year-old. Aribo has also been tipped for a reunion with former Gers manager Steven Gerrard at Aston Villa.

Interest in Aribo has risen after an impressive campaign with Rangers who agonisingly missed out on Europa League glory last season with defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt in the final. However, amid all the speculation about his future the versatile midfielder, who moved to Ibrox from Charlton Athletic in 2019, is keeping his pre-season focus on Rangers and not elsewhere.

“With all that stuff I don’t really read into it and I just focus on my football, because you can’t have distractions as it won’t allow you to play best and be the best that you want to be. Which is obviously what I want to be every time I play. I just want to be focused and ready to go,” said Aribo, as reported by the Daily Record.

Primarily a central midfielder, Aribo was deployed in a variety of roles last season, including leading the line as a central striker during the long-term absence of Alfredo Morelos. Aribo was up top for the Europa League final in May and opened the scoring in the 1-1 draw that ended with a 5-4 win for Frankfurt on penalties.

Saints have already had a busy transfer window so far with three new arrivals. Former Portsmouth loanee Gavin Bazunu completed his move to the south coast last month after a deal was agreed with Manchester City for the goalkeeper that could rise to £15million with add-ons. Polish shot-stopper Mateusz Lis arrived on a free transfer and Armel Bella-Kotchap signed a four-year deal with Saints after the defender completed his transfer from VfL Bochum
