Super Eagles left-winger, Chidera Ejuke has said he is ‘generally excited’ to join German Bundesliga club, Hertha BSC Berlin on loan from Russian side CSKA Moscow.
According to report, on 3 July 2022, Ejuke suspended his contact with CSKA Moscow for the 2022–23 season, having taken advantage of the FIFA ruling relating to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. On 13 July 2022, Ejuke joined Hertha BSC in Germany for the 2022–23 season.
Speaking after completing the loan deal, the 24-year-old winger expressed great excitement and further revealed he cannot wait to meet his new teammates.
“Yes, absolutely, I’m generally really excited to play for Hertha. I’m happy to be here and I’m excited! I spoke to my agents and we researched the club once we knew they were interested. Once I had more information and a clear plan, I quickly knew I wanted to come here – and I have!
“I can’t wait to meet the lads and the staff. I know that last season didn’t go to plan, but we’re all here together now to start a new campaign – and I want to have some great moments with the team,” said the versatile attacker.
Speaking further on the possibility of playing derby in the first Bundesliga game of the season against Union Berlin, Ejuke said derbies are quite interesting and count himself lucky to be part of it for the club early.
“Derbies are obviously quite special games and I’m happy to be able to experience it so early. The derbies were all emotional. But the one that really sticks out is CSKA against Spartak – which was also my first home game in Moscow.
“I’d already heard a lot about how important the game is and how the fans live and breathe the fixture. So I was really excited. And then I got stuck in, scored immediately and we came out on top. That was massive for the fans and also a really nice experience for me.”
Meanwhile, Solomon Okoronkwo was the first Nigerian to play for the Bundesliga side.
