Nigeria beat Uganda 1-0 on Thursday to qualify for the semi-finals of the TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations and also seal their place at the U20 World Cup.
Ladan Bosso’s Flying Eagles needed a first half own goal by Ibrahim Juma to beat the Ugandans at the Suez Canal Stadium on Thursday.
Uganda started the better side goalkeeper Chijioke Aniagboso pulling strings of great saves.
The Flying Eagles defended well, with Benjamin Fredrick and Abel Ogwuche performing their duties.
Nigeria continued to play on the break against the well drilled Ugandan team who finished first in Group B.
Flying Eagles went ahead following Ibrahim Juma’s own goal in the 30th minute.
On the hour mark and seven minutes after, Aniagboso saved point-blank efforts that sustained Nigeria’s lead, and in the 80th minute, Samson Lawal spun the ball away from goal from a 22-yard free-kick.
Victory earned Nigeria a slot in Monday’s semi-finals as well as a ticket to Indonesia. The Flying Eagles will take on the winner of the clash between Congo and Tunisia, happening at the Cairo International Stadium on Friday.
