Anglo-Nigerian striker Fred Onyedinma played a pivotal role as Wycombe Wanderers surged to the top of the League 1 standings with an impressive 5-0 win against Stockport County on Fireworks Night.
Richard Kone scored twice in the first half, including a penalty, while Onyedinma added two goals of his own, and Aaron Morley capped off the scoring.
Stockport, fresh off a 4-1 victory over Reading just a week prior, started the match with confidence.
However, Wycombe quickly extinguished that momentum, netting two goals within the first 12 minutes. The first came when Cam Humphreys blocked a clearance, allowing the Blues to swiftly transition the ball to Dan Udoh, who was fouled in the box by Fraser Horsfall, leading to Kone converting the penalty.
Kone then intercepted a poor pass from Lewis Fiorini, sprinted towards the goal, and struck a precise shot into the bottom corner from 18 yards.
The visitors continued to dominate. Humphreys showcased his skill by dispossessing a County player and racing down the flank, delivering a low cross that Stockport goalkeeper Corey Addai struggled to handle, allowing Kone to score his tenth goal of the season.
Kone later had a chance to add to his tally but shot directly at Addai from a cutback by Onyedinma, while Udoh tested the keeper with a powerful shot as Wycombe sought a fourth goal, which eventually came.
A well-executed short corner between Dan Harvie and Aaron Morley set up Humphreys, who delivered a pinpoint cross for Onyedinma to head in.
The scoring was completed when Aaron Morley unleashed a powerful low shot into the corner.
