As the January transfer window approaches, Manchester United are reportedly reigniting their pursuit of Napoli star Victor Osimhen.
According to transfer expert Gerardo Fasano of Ruleta Sport, the English giants are preparing an offer that includes Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee, along with cash, to secure the Nigerian forward’s signature.
Zirkzee, a 22-year-old striker with Nigerian heritage, joined Manchester United from Bologna for over £36 million. Despite his talent, he has struggled to establish himself as the Red Devils’ first-choice striker.
Fasano suggests that United’s coach, Ruben Amorim, is keen to explore alternatives after concerns over the high price Sporting Lisbon could demand for Viktor Gyökeres.
“Manchester United are said to be on the trail of Victor Osimhen,” the Transfer Expert reported. “I have been told that the English club, through Mr Amorim, could include the former Bologna striker Zirkzee in the negotiations for Osimhen. “Amorim has understood that Sporting Lisbon could ask too much for (Viktor) Gyokeres and is testing the waters for Osimhen. Zirkzee might not be the ideal striker for the coach.”
Victor Osimhen, currently valued as one of the most sought-after strikers in world football, has been in scintillating form for Napoli. The Super Eagles star was instrumental in helping Napoli clinch the Serie A title last season and has continued to deliver crucial goals this term.
However, Osimhen’s future at Napoli remains uncertain following reports of tension between the player and the club over social media controversies and contract negotiations.
A move to the Premier League could be appealing, with Manchester United’s renewed interest highlighting their determination to solve their attacking challenges.
Whether Napoli will entertain United’s proposed offer remains unclear, as the Italian champions have repeatedly stated they would only sell Osimhen for a fee exceeding €75 million.
With Zirkzee included in the deal, Manchester United may hope to reduce the financial outlay while still meeting Napoli’s expectations.
