Real Sociedad striker Umar Sadiq has expressed frustration with his limited playing time at the Spanish club, revealing his desire for more opportunities on the pitch.
The Nigerian forward, who joined Real Sociedad from Almeria in 2022, scored on his debut but has struggled to establish a regular spot in the starting lineup since recovering from a serious injury.
Sadiq, 27, sustained a cruciate ligament injury in his second appearance for the club, which sidelined him for the remainder of the 2022/23 season.
He returned to action at the start of the following campaign and netted three goals, along with one assist, in 26 La Liga appearances. However, most of these appearances were from the bench, and his involvement in matches this season has been even more limited.
The striker has made just six league appearances this term, with a total of eight appearances across all competitions, contributing one assist. Sadiq’s dissatisfaction with his role at the club has grown, and he recently spoke out about his situation.
“I just need continuity and that does not depend on me. I’m training well, I’m more than a professional now and that other part doesn’t depend on me,” Sadiq was quoted by eldesmarque.
“The only thing I can do is keep pushing and keep training hard and, when I have continuity, it will be time to prove it.”
Despite his lack of game time at Sociedad, Sadiq was included in Nigeria’s squad for their upcoming matches against Rwanda and Benin. He featured in the closing minutes of Nigeria’s 2-1 defeat to Rwanda in Uyo, but his limited involvement in both club and national team fixtures continues to be a source of frustration for the forward, who is eager to show his full potential.
