“We Are in Good Form” – Gasperini Credits Super Eagles Forward for Atalanta’s Growth

Atalanta head coach, Gian Piero Gasperini, has credited Super Eagles forward Ademola Olajade Lookman for the club’s impressive rise over the past two years, hailing his impact both on and off the pitch.

Lookman, 27, joined Atalanta from RB Leipzig in 2022 after a string of challenging stints at previous clubs. Since his arrival at the Bergamo-based side, Atalanta has seen significant success, including reaching the Coppa Italia final, winning the UEFA Europa League, and playing in the UEFA Super Cup against Real Madrid.

The club’s growth under Gasperini’s guidance has placed them just a point behind Serie A leaders, Inter Milan, as they aim to challenge for top honors.

Ahead of Atalanta’s upcoming clash with Roma, Gasperini took time to reflect on the club’s remarkable progress, attributing much of the success to Lookman’s contribution. “We are in a good period of form in Italy and Europe. I’m happy with the performances and results we are getting. Winning the Europa League last season helped us grow in confidence and self-belief,” Gasperini stated.

The Italian coach continued, “Many new players have arrived and are improving, but it was last season’s success, driven by players like Lookman, that set the tone.”

Atalanta has continued its excellent form into the current season, with Lookman playing a key role. The team is currently undefeated in their last twelve league matches, with ten wins and two draws. Notably, they have scored the most goals in Serie A this season, with Lookman contributing to 11 of those.

Atalanta’s rise has positioned them as strong contenders in both domestic and European competitions, and with the forward’s continued influence, the team is poised for further success as they head into their match at the Estadio Olimpico on Monday.
