Super Eagles Striker Simy Nwankwo Climbs to Third on Nigeria’s Serie B All-Time Scorers List

Nigerian international Simy Nwankwo added to his Serie B legacy on Sunday, scoring in Salernitana’s commanding 4-1 victory over Carrarese, Futbalgalore.com.ng reports.

Coming off the bench in the 71st minute, the 32-year-old forward sealed the win with a close-range finish in the 89th minute, marking his third goal of the season.

This latest strike brings Simy’s career tally in Serie B to 38 goals, making him Nigeria’s third-highest scorer in the history of the Italian second division.

Simy now trails only Osarimen Ebagua (62 goals) and Jerry Mbakogu (43 goals) on the Nigerian Serie B scoring charts, cementing his status as one of Nigeria’s most prolific strikers in Italy.

Before Victor Osimhen’s record-breaking exploits at Napoli, Simy held the title of Nigeria’s highest-ever scorer in Serie A with 34 goals. However, Osimhen surpassed that milestone with a remarkable 65 goals before moving to Galatasaray this summer.

Despite losing his Serie A record, Simy’s contributions remain significant. His tally is now within reach of Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman, who has already scored 31 goals in 72 Serie A appearances and continues to rise through the ranks.

Simy’s recent goals for Salernitana in Serie B also include strikes against Pisa and Sampdoria, showcasing his enduring quality even as he remains absent from the Super Eagles squad since his last invitation in 2018.

With his latest feat, Simy further solidifies his place in Nigerian football history, as he continues to make an impact in the Italian league system.
