Coppa Italia: Chukwueze at the double as Milan annihilate Sassuolo

AC Milan delivered a commanding performance against Serie B leaders Sassuolo, winning 6-1 at San Siro to secure a place in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals. The match featured a brace from Super Eagles star Samuel Chukwueze, along with goals from Tijjani Reijnders and Rafael Leao.

The scoring opened with a brilliant pass from Tijjani Reijnders, who sent a ball over the top to Samuel Chukwueze. Although Chukwueze’s initial shot hit the post during a one-on-one with the goalkeeper, he managed to convert the rebound into a goal.

Reijnders soon added to the scoreline, following a sequence where Leao and Abraham worked together to penetrate the left side. After Leao’s attempt was thwarted, the ball fell to Reijnders, who struck a powerful right-footed shot from outside the area.

Sassuolo’s defense faltered in the final third, allowing Abraham to quickly set up Chukwueze, who finished with an angled shot into the far bottom corner, completing his brace.

Milan quickly capitalized on a counter-attack, with Leao evading the offside trap thanks to a clever no-look pass from Loftus-Cheek, driving the ball into the near bottom corner.

Loftus-Cheek missed a header from a free kick, but Marco Sportiello managed to deflect a powerful long-range shot from Cristian Volpato, while Janis Antiste was caught offside when attempting to score from the rebound.

With a comfortable lead, Paulo Fonseca opted for four substitutions at halftime, including the introduction of teenage goalkeeper Lorenzo Torriani.

The team extended their lead to five when Yunus Musah tested Satalino’s reflexes, and from the ensuing corner, a cross from Christian Pulisic deflected off the far post, allowing Davide Calabria to convert the rebound from a challenging angle.

Strahinja Pavlovic preserved the clean sheet with a crucial sliding tackle on Samuele Mulattieri in the penalty area. However, shortly after, Mulattieri managed to score as his shot slipped past the uncertain Torriani at the near post, assisted by Janis Antiste from the right.

Abraham also joined the scoring, finishing from a tight angle after Noah Okafor received a through ball and laid it across the six-yard box.

Chukwueze has participated in all 13 of the club’s Serie A matches in the 2024/2025 season, logging 529 minutes of play, starting in six games and coming off the bench in seven.
