Nigeria U23 striker David Promise has set his sights on winning the Belgian Cup after his stellar performance propelled Union St. Gilloise to the quarterfinals with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Gent on Monday night.
Promise delivered a standout display, scoring twice to secure the reigning cup holders’ passage into the next round. He opened the scoring in the 12th minute and added his second goal on the hour mark, making it 3-1 before Union held off a late Gent resurgence.
The brace brought the young striker’s tally to eight goals across all competitions this season, solidifying his reputation as a key player for the team.
Expressing his ambitions following the victory, Promise said:
“The Croky Cup (Belgian Cup), ‘guys’,” David Promise declared after the cup victory by the reigning cup holders. The board talked to me a lot about it. And I’ve seen the images of the cup final last year at least a thousand times.”
“We’re going to fight to be there again this year. (Laughs) I want a medal too.”
Union St. Gilloise, the defending champions of the Belgian Cup, are aiming to retain the title, and Promise’s form could be pivotal in achieving that goal.
