CHAN Eagles send strong message to Ghana with friendly victory

The CHAN Eagles secured their first victory in a preparatory match ahead of the crucial 2025 CHAN playoff against their long-standing rivals, Ghana, scheduled for later this month.

The home-based national squad, employing a three-man defense, narrowly defeated Grassrunners FC 1-0, with substitute Papa Daniel scoring the decisive goal at Remo Stars Stadium.

Key players including Remo Stars goalkeeper Kayode Bankole, Victor Collins from Nasarawa United—who was part of the Super Eagles roster last month—and Rabiu Ali featured prominently in the match.

The team commenced their training camp on Wednesday in Ikenne.

The first leg of the 2025 CHAN playoff will take place in Ghana on December 22, followed by the return leg six days later.

The overall winners will qualify for next year’s CHAN tournament in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.

The CHAN Eagles’ lineup: Kayode, Abdulrafiu, Collins, Nduka, Onyebuchi, Sodiq, Zayyad, Fatokun, Ali; Alimi, Ogbole.
