Moses Simon with a world class winner as Nantes stun Rennes

Nantes, battling relegation all season under the guidance of club legend Antoine Kombouaré, faced significant challenges, while Rennes underwent a summer overhaul that led to the dismissal of Julien Stéphan in favor of the fiery Jorge Sampaoli. Despite Rennes enjoying a recent victory over Saint-Étienne, the dynamics of a derby often render form and standings irrelevant.

In the first half, Nantes, with Patrik Carlgren in goal, found themselves under considerable pressure, as the Swedish keeper made several crucial saves.

Even after Rennes defender Mikhail Faye received a red card early in the second half, Nantes continued to seek a breakthrough. Amine Gouiri tested Carlgren with a diving save, and the keeper also thwarted a long-range attempt from Ludovic Blas.

Just when it seemed the match would end in a stalemate, Moses Simon showcased his strength by fending off three defenders and striking a shot into the top corner, giving Nantes the lead with just three minutes left and lifting Nantes out of the relegation zone and placing them level with Rennes on 14 points.

Moses Simon has registered four goals and four assists in the French Ligue 1 this season.
