Enyimba suffer title blow with 0-0 Sunshine draw

Enyimba’s chances of winning the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title this season have been dealt a real blow as they slipped to a 0-0 draw at Sunshine Stars.

Yemi Olarenwaju’s side were unable to break down their determined visitors at the Emyimba International Stadium as the gap between themselves and leaders Remo Stars is now 8 points.

The People’s Elephants carved out the better early chances in Aba with goalkeeper Emmanuel Ofori called into action to deny Ifeanyi Ihemekwele on separate occassions.

The Owena Whales did improve with Opeoluwa Olufemi testing Enyimba goalkeeper Nathaniel Asibe.

Austine Onyemaechi, Fatai Abdullahi and Daniel Daga came close in the opening 15 minutes of the second stanza.

Former COD United net minder Asibe kept Enyimba in the game with a one on one save.

The People’s Elephants dominated the closing stages with Ofori again coming to Sunshine’s rescue with key stops.

Up next for Enyimba is a tough trip to Black Bulls in the CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday.

Sunshine Stars will face a tricky test at Niger Tornadoes.
