Samuel Chukwueze’s potential is undeniable, but his journey at AC Milan since his high-profile move from Villarreal has been far from smooth.
Despite flashes of brilliance, including a brace against Sassuolo on his 50th appearance for the club and a stunning goal for Nigeria against Rwanda last November, the 25-year-old winger’s overall form has been inconsistent. This has fueled speculation about a potential January move to the Premier League or Saudi Arabia.
Two prominent figures in Nigerian football, former Super Eagles coach José Peseiro and football legend Emmanuel Amunike, have weighed in on the challenges facing Chukwueze at Milan and offered insights into how he can unlock his full potential.
José Peseiro, who managed Chukwueze during his tenure with the Super Eagles, remained confident in the winger’s abilities.
Speaking to Sportitalia via Milan News, Peseiro shared his belief in Chukwueze’s growth alongside Milan teammate Rafael Leao, praising both players’ talent and potential.
“Two excellent players. I trained one (Cbukwueze) in the Nigerian national team, and the other (Rafael Leao) I would have loved to have at Sporting.Extraordinary players, with great quality and potential to grow even further. And I believe that Paulo Fonseca will help them become even better,” said Peseiro.
Emmanuel Amunike, who first discovered Chukwueze as a youth player for Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets, highlighted the importance of Milan’s coaching staff in unlocking the winger’s full potential.
When you have a player that you are looking to achieve something with, you should also be able to look at what is best for them and how you can bring out the best in them,” Amunike said in an interview with SportsBoom.
However, Amunike also emphasized that much of Chukwueze’s success depends on the player himself. “If he is doing well, it’s up to him if he is comfortable in Milan or wants to make the switch. A journey to success is not a straight line; it’s lined with ups and downs,” Amunike added.
Chukwueze has made 20 appearances for Milan this season, scoring three goals and providing one assist. In his international career, he has netted five goals in 38 appearances for Nigeria.
