Reigning Turkish champions Galatasaray have reportedly opened talks with Lyon for the signing of former Super Eagles invitee Gift Orban.
Despite Lyon having a decent season under coach Pierre Sage, Orban has struggled to make an impact, registering only five appearances so far this campaign.
His lack of game time has made him a candidate to leave the club, especially as Lyon is looking to sell players to balance their financial situation.
Orban has already attracted interest from German Bundesliga clubs, including RB Leipzig, Borussia Dortmund, and Stuttgart. However, it appears that Turkish giants Galatasaray could be leading the race to secure his signature.
Turkish journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu has confirmed that the Istanbul-based club has entered into discussions with Lyon over a potential move for the 22-year-old striker.
With Orban’s limited playing time at Lyon, Galatasaray could push to finalize the deal during the January transfer window. The Lions are currently without their star striker Mauro Icardi, who will miss the remainder of the season due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
Additionally, with Victor Osimhen expected to depart the club at the end of the season, Orban could serve as a solid replacement for both players.
Over the past few months, Orban’s market value has dropped to €10 million according to Transfermarkt, a fee that Galatasaray is reportedly able to afford.
This financial accessibility, combined with the need for reinforcements in attack, makes Orban a viable option for the Turkish club as they look to strengthen their squad.
