Injured Super Eagles midfielder Raphael Onyedika will miss Club Brugge’s final game of 2024, despite earlier optimism from his coach, Nicky Hayen.
Hayen had expressed hope that Onyedika would recover from a minor injury in time to feature in Club Brugge’s Belgian Pro League home fixture against Westerlo.
However, the Nigerian midfielder has been left out of the matchday squad, with Hayen opting to call up a couple of players from the second team instead.
This marks the second consecutive match Onyedika has missed, as he was also sidelined for Club Brugge’s previous game against Union St. Gilloise.
The absence of the 22-year-old is a blow for Brugge, as Onyedika has been an essential figure in the midfield. His calmness, composure, and ability to dictate play have made him a key player for the club this season.
Onyedika has also contributed offensively, scoring one goal and providing two assists in 24 appearances across all competitions.
His versatility and performances have been a standout for Brugge, who currently sit second in the Belgian Pro League, with 38 points from 19 matches—three points behind leaders Genk. Club Brugge will hope Onyedika recovers soon, as they continue their push for the league title in 2025.
